Inbox protection that does not require an IT team.

Inbox protection used to mean a security gateway in front of your mail server, configured by an admin, paying per user. That model still exists. It is also overkill for most independent professionals, founders, and small teams. The protection most people actually need is a layer that handles the senders the spam filter cannot catch: the cold pitch, the polished first email, the AI-written outreach, the impersonation attempt from a fresh domain. Rythm is that layer. Senders you know walk in at no extra cost. Senders you do not know pay a small cover charge (as low as a few cents, you set the amount) before they reach you, or wait in a held-for-review folder you can rescue them from before they pay. Setup is OAuth, not MX records. Pricing is $1.65 per month, not $36 to $82 per user per year. The protection runs on top of your existing Gmail or Outlook with no migration.

The standard play.

The conventional inbox-protection stack is built around enterprise mail-flow gateways. Mail is routed through a vendor (Proofpoint, Mimecast, Barracuda) before reaching the inbox. The gateway scans, scores, quarantines, and forwards. IT teams configure the policy. Compliance teams pull the audit logs. The model is sound for large organizations with regulatory requirements. It is heavy for everyone else: MX changes, per-seat pricing, admin consoles, and a quarantine portal each user has to learn.

Where it falls short.

  • Enterprise gateways require IT involvement and MX changes that small teams cannot or do not want to do.
  • Per-seat pricing scales with the team, not with the value protected. A two-person practice pays nearly the same per inbox as a 200-person firm.
  • Quarantine portals add a second inbox each user has to check. Most users do not check them.
  • Content classifiers struggle with AI-written outreach and well-crafted spear-phishing.
  • When the gateway makes a mistake, the user has limited recourse. Releasing a quarantined message is an admin action.

Rythm’s approach.

Three things change when the protection is economic instead of probabilistic.

Protection without an admin.

Connect Gmail or Outlook by OAuth in 10 seconds. No MX changes, no DNS surgery, no console to learn. The protection installs at the account level by API.

A door for unknown senders.

Anyone not on your guest list pays a small cover charge or waits in a folder you control. The decision is binary, not a model guess, and the user (you) is the admin.

No quarantine portal.

Held messages sit in a labeled folder inside your existing Gmail or Outlook. Rescue with one click in the same client you already use.

What Rythm doesn’t do here.

Rythm is not an enterprise email gateway. It does not provide compliance archiving, regulated-industry retention, mail-flow forensics, or a centrally-managed admin console for an IT team. If your organization needs DLP, eDiscovery, or SOC-grade incident response with full message replay, an enterprise SEG (Proofpoint, Mimecast, Microsoft Defender for Office 365) is the right shape. Rythm is the lighter layer that fits independent professionals, founders, and small teams who want the protection without the gateway. It runs on top of whatever native filtering your provider already does, and you can keep that layer on.
