for gmail

Rythm for Gmail. A bouncer on top of Google’s spam filter.

An email paywall for Gmail and Google Workspace. People you know walk right in. Unknown senders pay a small cover charge you set, and the money settles straight to your wallet. Connect with Google sign-in in about 10 seconds. We never hold your money. $1.65/month.

compatibility

Works with any Gmail.

Personal, business, custom domain. If you can sign in with Google, Rythm works.

Personal Gmail

Any @gmail.com account. Sign in with Google.

Google Workspace

Custom domain accounts on Workspace. Admin approval may apply.

Any Gmail with OAuth

Anything that supports OAuth and the Gmail API.

Rythm runs as an additional layer on top of Google’s native spam filter. It doesn’t replace it, disable it, or interfere with it.

setup

Connect your Gmail.

Four small steps. Most of it is the auto-build, and that runs in the background.

01

Sign in with Google.

Rythm uses the standard Google OAuth flow. Takes about 10 seconds.

02

Review the minimum permissions.

Rythm requests gmail.modify (read incoming unknown-sender messages, apply labels), userinfo.email, and contacts.readonly (used once to build your guest list). Rythm does not request gmail.send and does not send mail from your account.

03

Let the guest list auto-build.

The four-phase scan runs 8 to 10 minutes: starred, contacts, sent folder, inbox frequency.

04

Set your cover charge and wallet.

Pick the amount (default ~$0.04) and connect a wallet. Done.

what changes

What happens inside your Gmail.

Two new labels. Nothing else moves.

RYTHM: PAID

Paid mail lands in your inbox.

Unknown senders who paid the cover charge. Delivered to your inbox with this label.

RYTHM: REJECTED

Unpaid mail waits in line.

Unknown senders who didn’t pay. Held for review. Nothing is deleted.

Both labels are standard Gmail labels, with colors. They show up in Gmail web, Gmail mobile, Inbox-by-Gmail successors, and any IMAP client pointing at the same account.

The RYTHM: REJECTED folder is your waiting room. Check it whenever you want; drag anything back to your inbox and that sender joins your guest list permanently.

the gap

Why native Gmail filters aren’t enough on their own.

Gmail’s filter syntax doesn’t include an is:from-contacts operator, so you cannot write a rule like “always deliver from people in my address book.” The DIY workaround, listing every known sender in a single filter, breaks at roughly 1,500 characters per filter rule.

Rythm fills that gap: an auto-built guest list (no size limit) plus a small cover charge for anyone who isn’t on it yet.
